MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511125056 A) filed by Chandigarh University, Mohali, Punjab, on Dec. 11, 2025, for 'anti-collision sensor based orvm auto clossure.'

Inventor(s) include Er. Akshit Bhardwaj; Shikha; Ravinder Tonk; and Sushant Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on Ja. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention represents an intelligent Anti-Collision Sensor-Based Outside Rear View Mirror (ORVM) Auto-Closure System designed to protect vehicle side mirrors during low-speed movement or stationary conditions. The system employs proximity sensors, such as ultrasonic, infrared, or radar, to detect nearby obstacles or approaching objects around the ORVM. When a potential collision threat is identified within a predefined range, a control unit processes the sensor data and activates an electric actuator to automatically fold the mirror inward, minimizing the likelihood of impact. The control logic distinguishes between temporary and persistent threats to avoid unnecessary operation. The system further supports automatic reopening once the obstacle clears and provides manual override through existing vehicle controls. This invention improves vehicle safety, reduces repair costs, and enhances manoeuvrability in congested environments."
