MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641044254 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 7, for 'angulated dental mouth mirror integrated opposite side cotton roll slot.'

Inventor(s) include Fharreeha Fathima Anees; Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan; and Subhabratamaiti.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Dental mouth mirrors are essential instruments used for indirect vision, illumination, and retraction during dental procedures. Conventional mouth mirrors, however, function only as visual aids and require separate cotton rolls and additional instruments or manual assistance for moisture control and tissue retraction. This limitation leads to increased chairside time, frequent instrument exchange, compromised ergonomics, and difficulty in maintaining a dry operating field, especially in posterior regions of the oral cavity. The present invention addresses these limitations by introducing an angulated dental mouth mirror with an integrated cotton roll slot positioned on the opposite side of the reflective mirror head. The angulated neck design improves access and visibility while maintaining operator comfort. The cotton roll slot securely holds a standard dental cotton roll, enabling simultaneous saliva absorption and soft tissue retraction without obstructing the mirror surface. By combining visualization and moisture control into a single instrument, the invention enhances clinical efficiency, reduces procedural complexity, and improves the overall quality of dental care. The instrument is fabricated from medical-grade, autoclavable material, making it suitable for routine clinical use. This innovative design represents a functional advancement over conventional mouth mirrors and provides a practical solution to long-standing clinical challenges in dentistry."
