MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641061210 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on May 14, for 'an intelligent water resource management system and a method with leak detection.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Nithya S; Abinaya M; Mohanapriya V; and Sowberneka S.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an intelligent water resource management system with leak detection, comprising a storage tank, an ultrasonic sensor for non- contact measurement of water surface distance, a water level sensor for detecting low or empty conditions, and dual flow sensors positioned at the inlet and outlet to measure water flow rates. the system includes a solenoid valve controlled via a relay module, and a microcontroller configured to regulate water inflow, prevent overflow and backflow, and detect leakage by comparing inlet and outlet flow rates. a display unit provides real-time status of water level, valve state, and leak alerts. the system automatically manages water levels and detects leaks without manual intervention, wherein overflow is predicted by the ultrasonic sensor, low- level conditions are detected by the water level sensor, and leakage is identified when flow rate discrepancies exceed predefined thresholds. methods for intelligent water management include continuous monitoring, automatic actuation of the solenoid valve based on tank levels, real-time leak detection, and relay- based electrical isolation of high-power components."
