MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621005401 A) filed by Kpi Green Hydrogen And Ammonia Private Limited, Surat, Gujarat, on Jan. 19, for 'an integrated oxygen detection based safety enhancement system for industrial alkaline electrolysis hydrogen plants.'
Inventor(s) include Komal Rajendra Jarhad.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an integrated oxygen detection-based safety enhancement system (100) for industrial alkaline electrolysis hydrogen production plants. The system (100) comprises a plurality of oxygen detection units (101) installed at predetermined hydrogen handling and balance-of-plant locations, a plant-level control interface (102), a programmable logic controller (103), and a safety response module (104). The programmable logic controller (103) processes oxygen concentration data using multiple predefined threshold levels and incorporates rate-of-rise detection logic (116) to identify rapidly developing oxygen ingress conditions. Based on detected oxygen concentration, rate of increase, and location, the safety response module (104) automatically initiates graduated safety actions including alarm generation (105), controlled reduction of electrolyser operating load (106), isolation of affected plant sections (107), emergency shutdown (108), and safe venting or purging (109). The system (100) operates external to proprietary electrolyser internals and integrates with a PLC-SCADA system (110), thereby providing an independent plant-level safety layer for mitigating hazardous oxygen accumulation in hydrogen handling environments."
