MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202423077196 A) filed by Ipca Laboratories Limited, Maharashtra, on Oct. 11, 2024, for 'an improved method for preparation of azido and nitroso impurities free losartan potassium.'
Inventor(s) include Bhattacharyya, Pabitrakumar Kalipada; Khan, Afzal Yousuf; Chandrawat, Karan Pratap Singh; and Pal, Virendra Rameshchandra.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an improved process for manufacturing of Losartan Potassium. Most particularly, it relates to an improved process for manufacturing of Losartan Potassium free of carcinogenic Nitrosamine and azido impurities. The process of the present invention involves a reductive reaction at vigorous reflux conditions using an inorganic substance that substantially reduces the undesired impurities."
