MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631004067 A) filed by West Bengal Chemical Industries Ltd., Kolkata, West Bengal, on Jan. 15, for 'an improved green and industrially scalable process for the preparation of high-purity leucovorin calcium.'

Inventor(s) include Sunil Kumar Agarwal; Dr Anup Kumar Kundu; Abir Kumar Pal; Avijit Sehanobish; Saunak Sarbajna; Mohua Biswas; and Indrajit Dey.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a novel and industrially scalable process for the preparation of high-purity Leucovorin Calcium using a predominantly aqueous, low-temperature approach. The process avoids the use of hazardous organic amines, high-temperature reflux conditions, toxic borane-amine complexes, external catalysts, chromatographic purification, and employs water and water-miscible greener solvents for purification. The process consistently produces white to off-white Leucovorin Calcium with high assay ( 99% w/w) and improved yield ( 65%), while minimizing waste through solvent recovery and neutralization of acidic aqueous streams, making the process environmentally benign, cost-effective, and suitable for large-scale commercially manufacturing."
