MUMBAI, India, Sept. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202248015787 A) filed by Sun Patent Trust, New York, on March 22, 2022, for 'an image decoding and an image coding apparatus.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An image decoding apparatus (200) is provided which have a control circuitry (ex500) and a storage (ex511) accessible from the control circuitry (ex500). The control circuitry (ex500) performs arithmetic decoding (S241) on a first flag indicating whether or not an SAO parameter for a target block to be decoded and performs arithmetic decoding (S243) on the SAO parameter for the target block, when the first flag indicates that the SAO parameter for the target block is different from the SAO parameter for the left neighboring block. In the performing of the arithmetic decoding (S241) on the first flag, a single context is used to perform the arithmetic decoding on the first flag which is used in common for the luminance signal, the chrominance Cb signal, and the chrominance Cr signal, and in the performing of the SAO processing (S244), the decoded SAO parameter is used in common for a predetermined unit. An image coding apparatus (100) is provided which have a control circuitry (ex500) and a storage (ex511) accessible from the control circuitry (ex500). The control circuitry (ex500) performs Sample Adaptive Offset (SAO) processing (S141) on a luminance signal, a chrominance Cb signal, and a chrominance Cr signal which are included in a target block to be coded. In performing of a arithmetic coding on a first flag, a single context is used to perform the arithmetic coding on the first flag which is used in common for the luminance signal, the chrominance Cb signal, and the chrominance Cr signal."
