MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641062274 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on May 16, for 'an environment-aware reliability-driven adaptive inference system for autonomous operation.'
Inventor(s) include Sujatha R; Mohak Harsh; Pranit Mathur; and Romit Raman.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an environment-aware adaptive inference system for autonomous platforms operating in dynamic environments. The system computes environmental degradation metrics from multi-modal sensor data and determines a reliability score representing trustworthiness of machine learning inference based on stochastic variability, temporal consistency, and cross-modal agreement. An adaptive policy engine dynamically modifies inference parameters, including input resolution, inference frequency, and model selection, and system operational parameters, including speed and autonomy level, based on the reliability score. The system operates in a continuous closed-loop manner to achieve controlled degradation of system behavior under adverse environmental conditions. The invention enables reliability-driven adaptive autonomy, improves safety and robustness of autonomous systems, and operates using standard onboard sensors without requiring specialized hardware."
