MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541084635 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Sept. 5, 2025, for 'an electrocatalyst and electrochemical splitting of ammonia.'

Inventor(s) include Thomas, Tiju; Haridoss, Prathap; Hemaprabha, E; and Kumar, Singh Sonu.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a sulfur-doped nickel-copper (S-NiCu3) electrocatalyst, comprising: a. a nickel sulfide (Ni17S18) phase; b. an anilite (Cu7S4) 5 phase; and c. a chalcocite (Cu2S) phase. The present disclosure further provides a process for preparing the sulfur-doped nickel-copper (S-NiCu3) electrocatalyst, and an electrode. The present disclosure also provides a sulfur-doped nickel-copper (S-NiCu3) electrocatalyst obtained by a process, an electrode, and a process for electrochemical splitting of ammonia."
