MUMBAI, India, Aug. 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411010263 A) filed by Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Feb. 14, 2024, for 'an assembly for plant microbial fuel cell-based phytoremediation and working method thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Ravi Kant Singh; Shrirang Ravindra Maddalwar; and Atul Thakur.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 29, under issue no. 35/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an assembly for plant microbial fuel cell-based phytoremediation and working method thereof. The present invention discloses a novel method of treatment of wastewater using microbial fuel cell principle. This invention also establishes a new assembly for growing bacterial biofilm on stainless steel wool without external aeration and electric power. This method and design could be ideal for microbial treatment of chemical rich effluent, sludge, sewage wastewater or agricultural effluent. This design of wastewater treatment assembly can reduce the cost of aerobic microbial digestion technologies due to reduction in power requirement."
