MUMBAI, India, March 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431069076 A) filed by Neontram Private Limited, Balasore, Orissa, on Sept. 12, 2024, for 'an ai based wearable band for supporting user having foot drop.'

Inventor(s) include Basumatary, Bijit; Mallick, Adarsha Narayan; and Sahani, Ashish.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a functional electrical stimulation system comprises a compact, wearable band (1) on which the functional electrical stimulation system (100) and two electrodes are attached. The functional electrical system (100) also comprises an accelerometer (104), an inertial measurement unit (IMU) (106), a Machine learning unit (ML) (108) and a control unit (114). The accelerometer measures the acceleration and movement of the foot. The inertial measurement unit (IMU) (106) receives a plurality of inputs from the accelerometer and generates data related to the motion and orientation of the body. The data from the IMU is processed by an AI model in the ESP32 microcontroller to accurately predict the foot lift event upon which the system triggers the functional electrical stimulation unit to deliver electrical pulses to the muscles responsible for lifting the front part of the foot, hence providing more comfort and enhancing the safety of the user."
