MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511103011 A) filed by Dit University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Oct. 25, 2025, for 'an aesculin-glycine methyl ester and aesculin-metformin conjugate and method for its preparation.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. Akash Baliyan; Dr. Pankaj Pant; Dr. Ashok Behera; and Dr. Santosh Kumar Rath.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to novel conjugates of aesculin with glycine methyl ester and metformin, designed to improve the pharmacological and physicochemical properties of aesculin. Specifically, the invention discloses an aesculin-glycine methyl ester conjugate, wherein aesculin, a coumarin glycoside, is covalently linked to glycine methyl ester via an ester bond formed through EDC/NHS-mediated coupling. Similarly, an aesculin metformin conjugate is provided, wherein aesculin is conjugated to metformin via an amide bond using the same coupling chemistry. Both conjugates exhibit enhanced aqueous solubility, improved cellular uptake, and increased metabolic stability. The invention also encompasses methods for synthesizing these conjugates under mild reaction conditions in a methanolic medium using triethylamine and glacial acetic acid as catalysts. The products are characterized by FT-IR and mass spectrometry, confirming bond formation and molecular identity. These conjugates offer potential dual-functional therapeutic benefits, such as improved bioavailability, antioxidant activity, and glucose-lowering effects. to 15."
