MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411075790 A) filed by Chairman, Defence Research & Development Organisation; and Birla Institute Of Technology, Mesra, New Delhi, on Oct. 7, 2024, for 'an aerodisk spike assembly for reducing flow oscillation on a blunt body surface of an aerial vehicle.'

Inventor(s) include Das, Sudip; Rao, Lavala Srinivasa; Kumar, Priyank; and Ali, Naveed.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an aerodisk spike assembly for reducing oscillation on a blunt body surface of an aerial vehicle at a supersonic speed. The aerodisk assembly comprises a spike front head; a spike stem extending in a longitudinal direction having a length (L) with two distal ends, wherein a first distal end of the spike stem is mounted to the blunt body surface of the aerial vehicle and a second distal end of the spike stem is mounted to the spike front head. The spike front head includes a flat front surface with a shoulder and a truncated conical back surface which is connected to the second distal end of the spike stem wherein the truncated conical back surface of the spike front head defines a flare angle with the longitudinal axis of the spike stem, the flare angle ranges from 1000 to 1600."
