MUMBAI, India, Jan. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511105016 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, New Delhi, on Oct. 30, 2025, for 'an acoustic emission waveguide system and method of operating thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Dey, Satyam; Vangla, Prashanth; and Malik, Shahid.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a strip-based waveguide system for early warning in geosystems, particularly geotechnical structures like retaining walls, embankments, and D-walls. This waveguide (1) consists of a thin (4mm) metal strip featuring custom-made anisotropic surface roughness inspired by snakeskin patterns. Engineered fill material (2) surrounds the strip, promoting strong interaction and interlocking. A piezoelectric sensor (3) is attached to the metal strip to capture AE signals generated during shear deformation. A Data Acquisition (DAQ) system records and processes this data. By analyzing the AE signals, the system can provide early warnings when data crosses a predefined threshold value."
