MUMBAI, India, March 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202647023636 A) filed by Lyondellbasell Acetyls, Llc, Houston, on Feb. 27, for 'aminopolycarboxylates as rate promoters for the glacial acetic acid process.'
Inventor(s) include Hallinan, Noel, C.; Ramage, David, L; Weber, Shane, J.; Mathews, Ryan, J.; and Ross-Medgaarden, Elizabeth, I.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A process for producing and recovering acetic acid in an acetic acid production system is disclosed, the process comprising contacting methanol, methyl acetate, or a mixture of the two, and carbon monoxide in the presence of a reaction mixture comprising iodide under carbonylation conditions sufficient to form acetic acid. The reaction mixture comprises a carbonylation catalyst, water, and one or more promoters selected from the group consisting of Group I and Group II aminopoly carboxylate salts and mixtures thereof. An aspect of the process includes a method for reducing water in the acetic acid production process."
The patent application was internationally filed on Aug. 29, 2024, under International application No.PCT/US2024/044406.
