MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631026926 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, on March 7, for 'all weather autonomous ghat road warning system.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Prasant Kumar Sahu; and Dr. Debalina Ghosh.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An advanced system configuration for installations in accident prone road sections preferably adapted as Ghat Road Warning system is provided. The developed system is designed for accident prevention on Ghat roads and other hilly terrains. The system is an all-weather, autonomous safety solution capable of reliable operation across a wide range of environmental and temperature conditions. It is solar powered and incorporates an energy-efficient design that allows continuous operation on a 24x7x365 basis. Even in the absence of sunlight the system can work for up to seven days. The system is compact, microcontroller-based, and integrates sensing, signal processing, and duplex wireless communication within a single unit. Upon detection of approaching vehicles, the system transmits or receives warning signals over distances up to 600 meters. It provides both visual alerts through high-intensity lights and auditory alerts via a powerful siren rated at 110 dB locally as well as for the distant node. The invention is particularly useful for enhancing safety on blind curves, steep slopes, and accident-prone Ghat road sections."
