MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122968 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'ai-powered yoga pose detection and evaluation system.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Bhawana Tyagi; Vivek Gopalakrishnan Iyer; Ayush Ashok Katkurwar; and Honrao Atharva Yogesh.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides an AI-powered yoga pose detection and evaluation system. The system includes a pose estimation module configured to process real-time video input from a camera and extract skeletal keypoints representing human body landmarks using a neural network. The system includes a pose classification module having a convolutional neural network configured to classify detected poses based on visual features. The pose estimation module and pose classification module are integrated to evaluate pose accuracy by combining skeletal keypoint analysis with visual classification analysis. The system includes a timer management subsystem configured to operate in a learn mode wherein pose detection triggers a timer that measures duration of pose maintenance, and a practice mode wherein the timer pauses when pose alignment deviates from predetermined thresholds."
