MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511102878 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 25, 2025, for 'ai-powered robotic drone system for underground metro safety inspection and predictive maintenance.'
Inventor(s) include Gagandeep Kaur; and Dr. Manik Rakhra.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an AI-powered robotic drone system (100) for underground metro safety inspection and predictive maintenance. The system integrates multimodal sensors (102), AI-powered vision (104), autonomous navigation (106), a communication module (108), and predictive analytics (110) to provide continuous hazard monitoring. The multimodal sensors detect cracks, water seepage, structural deformations, abnormal heat zones, and hazardous gases. The AI vision identifies foreign objects, debris, rodents, and anomalies in real-time. SLAM-based navigation ensures autonomous movement in GPS-denied tunnels. Predictive analytics forecast failures and maintenance needs, while an emergency response module (112) guides evacuation with visual and auditory instructions. Fleet coordination enables full tunnel coverage. The system reduces human intervention, enhances safety, provides proactive maintenance alerts, and enables scalable monitoring of underground metro infrastructure efficiently and reliably."
