MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123284 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 6, 2025, for 'ai-powered dark pattern detection system for web interfaces.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system for detecting dark patterns in web interfaces. The system includes a data extraction module configured to extract content from web interfaces, the data extraction module having at least one of a web scraping component for processing website URLs and an optical character recognition component for processing interface screenshots. The system further includes a transformer-based text classifier configured to analyze extracted textual content and classify deceptive linguistic patterns into predefined dark pattern categories, and an object detection neural network-based visual detector configured to identify and localize deceptive visual elements within interface images. A fusion engine (FIG. 1) integrates classification outputs from both the text classifier and the visual detector to generate consolidated detection results. The system classifies detected patterns into dark pattern categories."
