MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641043162 A) filed by Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, on April 4, for 'ai-enabled urban flood detection and early warning system using cctv.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. Baraninathan. S P; Mr. Deepak Sudalai. M; Mr. Ebin Jebaraj. L; Mr. David. G; and Mrs. A. Euodial.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Urban flooding makes real-time monitoring difficult, causing delayed response and damage. Traditional methods are slow, costly, and often inaccurate. This project proposes an AI-based flood detection system using CCTV cameras and YOLOv8 in Python to detect water levels from live video feeds. A Raspberry Pi 4 is used to host the web dashboard continuously in 24/7 mode for real-time monitoring. The system stores flood detection details in a XAMPP MySQL database for analysis and record maintenance. This cost-effective solution uses existing infrastructure, live alerts, and database support to improve disaster management."
