MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611053239 A) filed by Poornima University; Mr. Sudhir Kumar; and Mr. Kapil Gulati, Jaipur, Rajasthan, on April 27, for 'ai-enabled smart wheelchair with voice command control, multi-sensor obstacle detection, and automated traffic management.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. Sudhir Kumar; and Mr. Kapil Gulati.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an artificial intelligence-enabled smart wheelchair device configured to provide safe, autonomous, and hands-free mobility assistance for users with limited motor capabilities. The device comprises a voice command receiving unit for capturing user speech, a speech processing processor for converting speech into structured navigation commands, and a plurality of environmental sensing units including ultrasonic sensing units, infrared sensing units, light detection and ranging sensing units, and image capturing units for real-time environment detection. A sensor fusion processor integrates data from the sensing units to generate a unified environmental representation, which is processed by a central control processor to determine a safe and adaptive navigation trajectory. The system further includes a traffic interpretation unit for detecting traffic conditions and a safety monitoring unit for preventing collisions through override control. A motor control unit actuates movement based on generated control signals. The invention enhances safety, independence, and operational efficiency in assistive mobility devices."
