Inventor(s) include Vijay Mane; Rupali Mahajan; Dnyanesh Ujalambkar; Anuj Udapure; Varun Patil; Srushti Gole; Aniruddha Sutawane; and Tanvi Walthare.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an AI-powered smart shopping cart system designed to enhance fraud prevention, automated checkout, customer convenience, and security in retail environments. The system integrates a hybrid RFID and barcode scanning module that automatically switches between scanning modes to ensure accurate product identification. A load cell-based weight verification system compares actual item weight against expected values, preventing barcode swapping and unauthorized product removal. An AI-powered image recognition module further enhances fraud detection by verifying scanned items against real-time camera feeds, while infrared cameras enable functionality under low-light conditions. The shopping cart features an adaptive theft prevention mechanism with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) and an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF)-based control system, which gradually increases wheel resistance or locks movement in response to unauthorized activity. A real-time billing and checkout system updates transaction data on a cloud-synchronized dashboard, supporting NFC and biometric payments for seamless self-checkout. Additional features include AI-driven navigation, voice-assisted product search, augmented reality (AR)-enabled shopping experiences, personalized recommendations, and cloud-linked customer account management. A geofencing-based movement control system prevents carts from leaving designated store boundaries, enhancing security. By combining AI, IoT, and real-time analytics, this invention eliminates fraud, enhances retail efficiency, and personalizes the shopping experience."
