MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122361 A) filed by Nandha Engineering College, Erode, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'ai-enabled face recognition for period wise student attendance monitoring.'
Inventor(s) include V. Ravichandran; K. Nandhini; L. K. Sandhuru; P. Sentamil; N. Suman; and S. Yaswanth.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an AI-enabled automated face recognition system for real-time and period-wise student attendance monitoring in educational institutions. The system integrates artificial intelligence (AQ, computer vision, and loT technologies to eliminate manual attendance marking and prevent proxy entries through intelligent facial verification and liveness detection. The proposed system employs a Pi Camera to capture live video input of students, which is then processed by a DeepFace algorithm implemented on a Raspberry Pi-based Edge-A! platform. The AI model performs accurate face detection and recognition, while a livcncss detection module validates genuine human presence by analyzing facial movements and texture variations, effectively preventing spoofmg attempts using photos or videos. Once identification is verified, the system automatically records in-time, out-time, duration, class period, and attendance status in real time. Data is securely logged into both cloud and Excel storage systems for redundancy and accessibility. A dashboard interface enables teachers or administrators to view, manage, and analyze attendance data seamlessly, while a buzzer module provides automated alerts for each class period transition. This invention offers a secure, scalable, and cost-effective attendance management solution, ensuring high accuracy, reduced human intervention, and enhanced transparency. By integrating AI and loT technologies, it supports the development of smart educational environments that promote digital transformation and operational efficiency."
