MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124725 A) filed by Palamuru University, Mahanbubnagar, Telangana, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'ai-based predictive biodegradation system for polypropylene using thermophilic bacterial strain.'

Inventor(s) include Swetha. K; and Dr. Shanthipriya Ajmera.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an AI-enabled predictive biodegradation system for polypropylene using thermophilic bacterial activity. The system comprises a thermophilic bioreactor, IoT sensor array, AI prediction engine, wireless communication module, automated environmental control unit, and real-time monitoring dashboard. Polypropylene waste is degraded under controlled thermophilic conditions while sensors continuously measure pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, polymer mass loss, and carbon dioxide generation. Sensor data is transmitted to a cloud-based AI system that predicts degradation efficiency and dynamically optimizes environmental conditions. The invention eliminates manual dependence, enhances degradation speed, ensures process reproducibility, and enables industrial-scale deployment for sustainable plastic waste management. The system provides a closed-loop intelligent biodegradation platform applicable to industrial, biomedical, and municipal plastic waste treatment facilities."
