MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641063347 A) filed by Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute Of Science And Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on May 19, for 'ai-assisted adaptive multi-material structural optimization system for additive manufacturing.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Logesh K; Dr. K. Karthik; Dr. R. Ramesh Kumar; and Dr. Mathew Alphonse.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an AI-assisted adaptive multi-material generative structural optimization system for additive manufacturing applications. The invention autonomously generates lightweight and structurally efficient geometries using artificial intelligence-assisted topology evolution, finite element feedback, manufacturing-aware geometry adaptation, and multi-material optimization. A parametric design space comprising preserve zones and obstacle zones is established for adaptive structural generation under compressive, torsional, vibration-induced, and thermal loading conditions. The system continuously evaluates stress distribution, displacement, strain, safety factor, and manufacturability parameters to iteratively redistribute material and evolve biomimetic load-transfer geometries with optimized stiffness-to-mass ratio. Simultaneous optimization using Aluminum 6061 and Aluminum AlSi10Mg enables intelligent region-wise material allocation and Pareto-front-based optimal design selection. The invention further integrates additive manufacturing constraint handling, build orientation optimization, support minimization, and digital twin-assisted adaptive redesign for generating manufacturing-ready lightweight structural components with enhanced structural reliability and reduced material utilization."
