MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122517 A) filed by New Prince Shri Bhavani College Of Engineering And Technology; Akash. H; Dhanush. M; Poul Louis. A; and Dr. G. Durgadevi, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'ai & iot- powered smart buoy system for maritime navigation.'

Inventor(s) include Akash. H; Dhanush. M; Poul Louis. A; and Dr. G. Durgadevi.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Maritime navigation, especially in inland waterways and coastal zones, faces challenges such as limited visibility, lack of real-time updates, and inefficient manual monitoring systems. To address these issues, this project proposes an AI and loT-powered Smart Buoy System equipped with ESP8266 microcontrollers and LoRa communication modules. The system consists of a network of self-sustaining, low-power buoys that monitor marine traffic, environmental conditions, and navigation hazards in real-time. Each buoy collects critical data including GPS location, wave height, temperature, and vessel proximity, transmitting this information via LoRa to a central base station. The data is then relayed to a cloud-based dashboard accessible to maritime authorities and vessel operators. An AI module processes the collected data, providing predictive analysis to forecast obstacle positions, 'Vessel congestion, and hazardous water patterns, thereby enhancing navigation safety. This 'Smart Buoy System aims to improve maritime traftic management, ensure safer navigation, and provide early warnings for disasters like storm surges and abnormal tides. Powered by solar energy and equipped with sensors and AI models, the system supports coastal and inland waterway monitoring, fishing zone safety, and smart port operations."
