MUMBAI, India, June 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202341088338 A) filed by Tata Institute For Genetics And Society, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on Dec. 22, 2023, for 'agrobacterium mediated transformation method for oryza sativa.'
Inventor(s) include Sura, Syam; Vennapusa, Ramanjaneya Reddy; Girish, Chandra; and Tavva, V. S. Sresty.
The application for the patent was published on June 27, under issue no. 26/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a method for tissue culture of Oryza sativa. In particular, the embodiments herein provide a method for transformation of Oryza 5 sativa varieties. The disclosed method is capable of achieving efficient transformation even in highly recalcitrant varieties. The method, according to embodiments herein, includes the use of a callus derived from immature embryos of Oryza sativa for Agrobacterium mediated gene transformation. Accordingly, embodiments herein achieve a method for producing transformed plantlets of 10 Oryza sativa, by Agrobacterium mediated transformation, using immature embryos or immature embryos derived callus as explants."
