MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641024773 A) filed by Kkr & Ksr Institute Of Technology And Sciences, Vinjanampadu, Andhra Pradesh, on March 2, for 'agri rain protect - smart crop protection and rainwater harvesting system using inclined polythene cover and rain sensor.'

Inventor(s) include G. Sri Rupa; Ch. Sumanjali; Ch. Sruthi; Sk. Nahida; Ch. Spurthi; G. Sushma; and G. Sirisha.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The Smart Rain Protection and Water Harvesting System is a practical farming solution proposed to save crops from sudden unseasonal rain while collecting every drop of rainwater for later use in irrigation. A wide polythene sheet is placed on a slanted frame above the plants so that when a simple rain sensor feels the first drops, it quickly signals a small controller to spread or adjust the cover automatically. The same slanted sheet then guides the rainwater straight into gutters and pipes that lead to a storage tank or underground pit. This low-cost setup works without electricity in many cases, gives instant phone alerts to the farmer, and helps small fields stay safe and well-watered even when the weather changes fast."
