MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411019287 A) filed by Sanskriti University, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, on March 15, 2024, for 'adjustable staircase climbing assistive device.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Akash Kumar Verma; and Aishwary Awasthi.
The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An adjustable staircase climbing assistive device comprises of a frame 1 having a plate 2 that is to be installed on lateral ends of a stair case, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 3 integrated with the frame 1 to determine presence of a handicapped person with wheelchair or a normal person with a trolley, a flap 4 arranged with the plate 2 via motorized hinge joints 5 to diverge the flap 4 with respect to the plate 2, motorized rollers 6 horizontally embedded on the flap 4 to rotate at a pre-defined speed to provide a friction to the wheelchair or trolley along with applying a pushing force on the wheelchair and trolley to aid in climbing the staircase, and robotic arms 7 ranging from 4 to 6 in numbers arranged on lateral ends of the flap 4 for acquiring a grip over the wheelchair or trolley."
