MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202514081124 A) filed by Distance Technologies Oy, Helsinki, on Aug. 27, 2025, for 'adaptive windshield.'
Inventor(s) include Mikko Juhola; and Urho Konttori.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed is a system (100) comprising a windshield (102) and processor(s) (120). The windshield comprises a first substrate (104) and a second substrate (106) that are optically transparent, and a liquid crystal (LC) layer (108) encased between the first substrate and the second substrate. A surface of at least one of: the first substrate, the second substrate that is in contact with the LC layer has at least one optical feature (114a-b) that pertains to at least one optical property. The at least one optical property comprises at least one of: optical power, diffraction, refraction, transmittance, reflectance, polarization. The processor(s) are configured to selectively adjust a refractive index of an LC material in at least a given portion of the LC layer, to modulate the at least one optical property in a corresponding portion (132a-b) of the windshield."
