MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511131980 A) filed by Panipat Institute Of Engineering And Technology, Samalkha, Haryana, on Dec. 26, 2025, for 'adaptive traffic intersection system for automatic conversion between signalized control and roundabout mode based on real-time traffic volume.'

Inventor(s) include Er Deepak Juneja; Er Devender; and Mr. Vivek Kumar Thahiya.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An adaptive traffic intersection system that automatically switches between signal-controlled mode and roundabout mode based on real-time traffic density is disclosed. The system includes IoT-enabled vehicle detection sensors, an AI-based control unit, adaptive LED signaling indicators, and a physical lane reconfiguration mechanism comprising retractable dividers and movable barriers. During low traffic conditions, the system transforms the intersection into a roundabout configuration to allow continuous vehicle flow, while in high traffic conditions, it reverts to conventional signalized control. This hybrid approach reduces vehicle idle time, minimizes fuel consumption, lowers emissions, and enhances overall traffic efficiency and safety. The system can be integrated with smart city infrastructure, supports sustainable energy operation, and provides failsafe mechanisms for secure operation under all conditions."
