MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641049586 A) filed by Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute Of Science And Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 18, for 'adaptive sensor-fusion based forklift reverse collision prevention system.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Chithras. T; Mr. Ishandhan. S; Mr. Vijayareshanth. P; Mr. Mageswaran. K; Mr. Jagadeesh S; and Dr A R Arvind.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Adaptive Sensor-Fusion Based Forklift Reverse Collision Prevention System The present invention relates to an adaptive sensor-fusion based collision prevention system for industrial vehicles, particularly forklifts, to enhance safety during reverse operation. The system integrates a vision-based detection module and a plurality of proximity sensing units with an embedded processing unit to enable real-time detection of human presence and obstacles. A sensor-fusion mechanism combines classification outputs and distance measurements to generate a situational awareness model. An adaptive decision-making module evaluates a collision risk index based on object classification, confidence level, and proximity parameters. Based on the evaluated risk, the system generates graded alerts and automatically actuates braking in critical conditions. The invention further incorporates a fail-safe mechanism to prioritize human safety. The system provides a cost-effective, reliable, and scalable solution for reducing accidents in industrial environments."
