MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641061019 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on May 14, for 'adaptive fertilization system and method for generating optimized fertilizer composition using reinforcement learning.'

Inventor(s) include Jayashree; Swathi C; Vishwa B; and Dr. J. Vijayashree.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An adaptive fertilization system for generating optimized fertilizer composition using reinforcement learning is provided. The system 100 includes an input data source 102, a network 104, and a fertilizer optimization server 106. The input data source 102 provides soil nutrient parameters and plant health indicators. The fertilizer optimization server 106 preprocesses the soil and plant health data to form structured input vectors; constructs environmental state representation by integrating structured input vectors into multidimensional state vector; processes, using reinforcement learning model 106A, the environmental state representation by mapping state vector to action space (candidate fertilizer compositions); computes reward signals based on agronomic performance metrics to update fertilizer composition policy; iteratively update the fertilizer composition policy based on the computed reward signals and historical state-action-reward data; and generate optimized fertilizer composition (compost, vermicompost, biochar, green manure extracts, microbial cultures, and mineral supplements based on updated fertilizer composition policy."
