MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641063607 A) filed by Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute Of Science and Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on May 20, for 'adaptive edge-intelligent forklift pedestrian safety shield system.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. T. Kavitha; Shaik Sattar; Velpucher Nava Kranth Reddy; Ambati Venkata Abilash Reddy; Dr. A. R. Arvind; and Dr. A. Mutharasan.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an adaptive edge-intelligent forklift pedestrian safety shield system for preventing industrial vehicle collisions and enhancing workplace safety in warehouses, manufacturing plants, logistics centres, and industrial environments. The system comprises infrared transmitting modules, TSOP1738-based infrared receiver modules, embedded edge-processing circuitry, directional sensing enclosures, adaptive environmental calibration logic, and multi-level visual and audible alert mechanisms. Modulated infrared signals are transmitted around an industrial vehicle and reflected signals from pedestrians or obstacles are dynamically analysed using embedded intelligent processing logic to determine collision risk levels in real time. The invention incorporates configurable masking structures and directional apertures for selective sensing coverage and false-alarm reduction under varying industrial conditions. Adaptive multi-zone safety monitoring enables caution, warning, and critical hazard detection. The system optionally interfaces with vehicle control systems for autonomous intervention during emergency proximity conditions. The invention provides a compact, low-cost, energy-efficient, and retrofittable industrial collision prevention platform."
