MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641063609 A) filed by Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute Of Science And Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on May 20, for 'adaptive edge-ai based autonomous microplastic detection and environmental intelligence system.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. M Prabha; Rishika MN; Dr. A Rosi; and Dr. Divya D.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an Adaptive Edge-AI Based Autonomous Microplastic Detection and Environmental Intelligence System for rapid, low-cost, and decentralized monitoring of microplastic contaminants in water sources. The system integrates ultraviolet-induced fluorescence excitation, laser-assisted particle agitation, cadmium sulfide-based light dependent resistor sensing arrays, adaptive Edge-AI processing, and multi-sensor environmental fusion within a portable field-deployable platform. Fluorescent dye-bound microplastic particles emit visible fluorescence under ultraviolet excitation, while laser-induced agitation improves particle suspension and measurement consistency. The fluorescence signals are captured and processed using embedded machine learning algorithms configured for autonomous calibration, environmental compensation, anomaly detection, and intelligent contamination classification. The system further supports predictive environmental analytics, real-time dashboard visualization, geo-referenced contamination mapping, and cloud-connected environmental monitoring. The invention provides an energy-efficient, scalable, and user-friendly environmental intelligence platform for water quality assessment, pollution surveillance, environmental protection, and public health applications."
