The adaptive cruise control sys-tem (24) is configured to determine (56) if the vehicle (10) is driving (58) on or changing (60) to a lane (20) of a predetermined lane type (62) and to discontinue (64) controlling (34) the vehicle (10) to accelerate (36) if the speed (26) of the vehicle (10) is below the first target driving speed (44) if the vehicle (10) is driving (58) on or changing (60) to a lane (20) of the predetermined lane type (62)."
