MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641063604 A) filed by Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute Of Science And Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on May 20, for 'adaptive controlled-release bioactive hydrogel for smart wound therapy.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Shobana Sampath; and Yuvarani Krishnan.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an adaptive controlled-release bioactive hydrogel platform for multifunctional wound therapy, tissue regeneration, antimicrobial protection, inflammation suppression, and sustained pain relief. The hydrogel comprises bioactive compounds derived from Capsicum chinense incorporated within a biocompatible polymeric matrix comprising sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and controlled-release encapsulation structures. The encapsulated bioactive compounds are configured to provide sustained and stimuli-responsive therapeutic release based on wound microenvironment conditions including temperature, moisture, pH, and inflammatory status. The hydrogel demonstrates concentration-dependent antimicrobial activity against pathogenic microorganisms while exhibiting high cytocompatibility toward fibroblast cells. The formulation further enhances cellular migration, accelerates wound closure, suppresses nitric oxide-mediated inflammatory pathways, and provides prolonged analgesic activity with reduced capsaicinoid-induced irritation. In certain embodiments, the invention further integrates AI-assisted wound monitoring and adaptive therapeutic recommendation functionality. The invention provides an intelligent multifunctional wound management platform suitable for acute and chronic wound-care applications."
