MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441016527 A) filed by Advanced Research Centre For Powder Metallurgy And New Materials, Hyderabad, Telangana, on March 7, 2024, for 'a top-lid assembly for a battery cell and a method for producing the top-lid assembly.'

Inventor(s) include Lakshmanan Babu; V. V. N. Phani Kumar; Kasi Shanmugam; Arumaikani Sivaraj; Raju Prakash; Raghavan Gopalan; and Tata Narasinga Rao.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a top-lid assembly (10) for a battery cell and a method (1200) for producing a top-lid assembly (10). The top-lid assembly (10) can comprise a top-lid (4) fused with a nickel-coated steel stud (15) using molten polypropylene insulator (16) such that the top-lid (4) fused along with the nickel-coated steel stud (15) forms the top-lid assembly (10) as a single component and a nickel coated copper tab (5) comprising a hole on at least one side of the nickel coated copper tab (5) is joined to the nickel-coated steel stud (15) by one or more welding processes. The nickel-coated steel stud (15) can be fabricated as a single part serving as a terminal, in which an upper collar (15b) and a lower collar (15c) are joined through a tubular stem (15d), through which an electrolyte solution is filled into the battery cell."
