MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641025187 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 3, for 'a system to shift load in a backpack to reduce fatigue for a user.'

Inventor(s) include Abhiram Sharma; Vasu Arya; Saksham Anand; and Trilok Nath Pandey.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system 100 for a backpack 200 for a user 102 includes a pair of pressure sensors 104-A configured with a pair of symmetric shoulder-attachment strips 202; a torsion-spring loaded cam 204 to senses shoulder force through an integrated leaf-spring sensor 104-B; and a central spine interface with a pair of hip-bars pivot brackets 206 to transfer load to the pelvis of the user 102 such that when the shoulder load surpasses a calibrated threshold, the cam 204 automatically disengages and allows hip-bars pivot brackets 206 to pivot downward, transferring the majority of the load to the hips, and wherein once the load reduces, a return spring resets the mechanism, ensuring redistribution of load both proportional and reversible on shoulder and hips to maintain stability and fatigue reduction without any manual adjustment."
