MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511117471 A) filed by Thapar Institute Of Engineering And Technology, Patiala, Punjab, on Nov. 26, 2025, for 'a system for real-time barrel condition monitoring using high-resolution imaging and artificial intelligence and a method thereof.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A real-time inspection system and method for barrel condition monitoring is disclosed, belonging to the field of industrial equipment maintenance. The system comprises a telescopic insertion rod (1) with anti-slip textured sections and gradations, an optical imaging head (2) with a wide-angle lens and anti-reflective coating enclosed in a metallic housing, and an illumination ring (5) featuring adjustable high-intensity white LEDs to uniformly light the barrel interior. A base processing unit (3) equipped with a single-board computer processes high-resolution images transmitted via an internal data and power cable (6) using artificial intelligence algorithms to detect wear, erosion, cracks, and deformations. Additional components include a wireless communication module (7) for real-time data transmission and an ergonomic handle assembly (4) with a local display screen (8) for secure manual operation and immediate visualization of inspection data."
