MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411029187 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, New Delhi, on April 10, 2024, for 'a system for facial expression recognition using attention based vision transformer.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a system for facial expression recognition (100). The system (100) comprises a data acquisition unit (102), a face detection unit (103), and an emotion recognition unit (104). The face detection unit (103) is configured to detect the face using deep learning models such as YOLO for face detection, trained on the database created by the data collection unit (102a). The emotion recognition unit (104) is configured to detect the emotion from the image received from the face detection unit (103) using attention based vision transformer. The present invention provide a faster and more accurate facial expression recognition system that provides name of expression from 20 facial expressions, including twelve previously unexplored emotions, fostering a nuanced understanding of human emotions."
