MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411023962 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on March 26, 2024, for 'a system for controlling opening and closing of a door of a vehicle.'
Inventor(s) include Pratyush Verma; and Nithin Gopinath Nayak.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (100) for controlling the opening and closing of a door of a vehicle includes a plurality of hinge assemblies (102) configured between both vertical sides of door (104) and vehicle body. Each of the hinge assemblies (102) is configured to be switch between a hinge mode, where hinge assembly (102) defines a hinge axis for movement of the door (104) about the defined hinge axis, and a support mode, in which the hinge assembly (102) allows corresponding side of the door (104) to move away, and supports the corresponding door (104), when door (104) is closed. When the door is to be opened about a first side (104-1), a first set of hinge assemblies (102-A) are switched to hinge mode and a second hinge assemblies (102-B) are switched to support mode, and vice versa, when the door is to be opened about a second side (104-2)."
