MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611000570 A) filed by Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Jan. 3, for 'a system and method for real-time multi-sensor waste monitoring and alert in municipal smart bin infrastructure.'
Inventor(s) include Atika Gupta; Priyanshu Bagari; and Saransh Khugshal.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a municipal waste management system incorporating a waste bin equipped with an ultrasonic sensor for measuring fill-level, a gas sensor for monitoring ambient gas concentrations, and a load cell assembly for determining weight. A microcontroller unit aggregates the sensor data and compares it against predetermined threshold values for each parameter, thereby enhancing accuracy and reliability compared to systems using fewer sensors. Once any sensor reading exceeds its preset limit, the microcontroller activates a communication module either GSM or Wi-Fi to transmit an alert, with an optional imaging module capturing real-time visuals of the bin. A power supply system comprising a rechargeable battery and an optional solar panel ensures continuous, autonomous operation within a durable plastic enclosure."
