MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641016825 A) filed by Tractors And Farm Equipment Limited, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 16, for 'a system and method for real-time autonomous soil mapping.'

Inventor(s) include Sriraman S; Suresh M; Senthilkumar M; Vinodhkumar H P; Prem V; and Lakshmanakumar P.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a real-time autonomous soil mapping system comprising an Autonomous Flying and Sensing System (AFSS) integrated with a Soil Sensing Unit (SSU). The AFSS includes a rotorcraft equipped with a flight controller, GNSS, compass, and vision-based obstacle sensors for autonomous navigation and real-time obstacle avoidance. The SSU incorporates a microcontroller-controlled deployment unit configured to engage soil sensors, a soil probe for in situ measurement or sample collection at depths, and an optional optical sensor comprising a spectral or multispectral camera for capturing soil reflectance within certain nanometres. Soil parameters measurable include pH, organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, temperature, and moisture. An antenna module enables continuous wireless transmission, while a data logger ensures storage during network loss. A cloud-based analytical platform processes soil data, and a user interface provides automated route planning and visualization of real-time soil metrics, fertility maps, temporal variations, and zone-specific fertilizer recommendations."
