MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641007479 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 26, for 'a system and method for predictive onboard water management in passenger trains.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. V. Sivakumar; and Kirubakaran R D.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a system and method for predictive onboard water management in passenger trains. The invention provides a decision-support framework implemented as a smart autonomous onboard water management system (100) having an overall system architecture (200) configured to predict future water consumption and depletion timelines at an individual coach level during an ongoing train journey. An AI-based water consumption prediction module (300) analyses journey parameters, passenger occupancy, and historical usage data associated with coach-level water storage units (400). Based on the predicted consumption and remaining journey distance, a station-coordinated refill planning module (500) generates advance refill planning recommendations identifying suitable refilling stations, refill quantities, and target coaches. The system includes a human-assisted execution framework (600) and a monitoring and adaptation module (700), enabling proactive prevention of water shortages and reduction of water wastage without modification of existing infrastructure."
