MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124718 A) filed by Retearn Technologies Private Limited, Rangareddy, Telangana, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'a system and method for multi-functional item intake, classification, and validation in reverse vending machines.'

Inventor(s) include Tirumala Vangipuram Sujanparthasaradhi; Vivek; Kesavarapu Akhil Teja; Mohammed Shahid Hussain; and Anjali Tripathi.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure describes a system and method for a multi-functional item intake system designed for Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs), integrating intelligent sensing, imaging, and control for automated classification and validated deposition of recyclable items. The system comprises a 360 sensor-embedded intake ring, a multi-functional platform, and a vision-based classification unit equipped with calibrated illumination. An AI-trained control module classifies items into categories, including PET, HDPE, LDPE, PP, MLP, glass, and metal, and dynamically actuates the platform to discharge each item into its designated chute through a noise-reduction and drop-validation assembly. Adaptive illumination provides user feedback at every stage, ready, scan, classify, and complete, while embedded algorithms ensure reliable identification under varying environmental conditions. Such a system establishes a compact, intelligent, compact and high-speed intake-classification-validation framework for next-generation RVMs, enabling efficient, user-friendly, and verifiable recycling operations."
