MUMBAI, India, Jan. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511105382 A) filed by Graphic Era, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Oct. 31, 2025, for 'a system and method for microwave-assisted extraction of guava leaf bioactives and formulation of naturally derived antimicrobial edible coatings.'
Inventor(s) include Anjali Sahal; Sanjay Kumar; and Aniket Chikara.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system and method in the technical field of natural product extraction and edible coating formulation comprises a microwave-assisted extraction module including a microwave reactor that irradiates a mixture of finely powdered guava leaves and 70% ethanol to induce dipolar rotation and ionic conduction, thereby rupturing cell walls to release bioactive compounds such as gallic acid and p-coumaric acid. A separation unit, utilizing vacuum filtration and/or centrifugation, isolates the liquid extract, which is then concentrated under reduced pressure. An edible coating formulation module incorporates a polysaccharide base generator to prepare a 1.25% sodium alginate solution, a stabilizer incorporator to blend xanthan gum at 0.3%, and an extract incorporator to integrate the concentrated extract at 0.81%, thereby providing a naturally derived antimicrobial coating with enhanced bioactive delivery and stability."
