MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511113071 A) filed by Graphic Era, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Nov. 17, 2025, for 'a system and method for microbial remediation of heavy metals and crop resilience enhancement in agro-ecosystems.'

Inventor(s) include Ponmurugan Karuppiah; Uma Eswarapillai; Debasis Mitra; and Rahul Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a system and method in the field of agricultural biotechnology that utilizes a microbial consortium (10) comprising a bacterial component (e.g., Pseudomonas spp. or Bacillus spp.) and an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal component for remediation of heavy metals and enhancement of crop resilience. The consortium operates with a remediation mechanism (20) to reduce heavy metal bioavailability by biosorption, bioaccumulation, biotransformation, and redox reactions, and a plant growth enhancement component (30) that secretes phytohormones, siderophores, and organic acids. An agro-ecosystem integration module (40) delivers the treatment via soil inoculation, seed coating, or foliar spraying, while a detection and monitoring module (50) evaluates heavy metal concentrations in soil and plant tissues, ensuring effective and sustainable remediation and improved agricultural productivity."
