MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511113807 A) filed by UPES, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Nov. 19, 2025, for 'a system and method for hybrid biochar-vermicomposting incorporating ai-enabled emission control and blockchain nft carbon credit monetization.'
Inventor(s) include Dr Neelu Jyothi Ahuja; Mr Abhirup Khanna; and Ms Anushree Sah.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a system in the field of sustainable waste management integrating a modular composting unit (20) featuring a biochar-organic waste mixing zone (20a), an earthworm habitation zone (20b), and a compost maturation zone (20c) with a biochar feed system (10) for uniform dispersion of biochar. An AI-enabled sensor module (30) with corresponding control unit (30a) monitors critical parameters and adjusts an aeration and moisture regulation system (40), while a vermi-wash collection system (50) processes nutrient-rich effluent. Emission data is securely transmitted to a blockchain-enabled NFT integration module (60) that converts monitored data into digital tokens representing carbon credits, providing automated, real-time environmental compliance and monetization of carbon reductions."
