Abstract: A high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging system is disclosed. A motion measurement sensor (10) supplies platform position, velocity and orientation data to a radar control unit (12), which synchronizes a pulse generation stage (14) producing chirp pulses for a sender (16). The sender feeds amplified pulses through a circulator to an antenna (18), which transmits the pulses toward a target scene and receives reflected echoes. A receiver (20) amplifies and filters the weak echoes, which are passed to a demodulation and analog-to- digital conversion stage (22) for digitization. The digitized data are supplied to a SAR processor (24) that performs range compression, motion compensation and azimuth compression to synthesize a large antenna aperture from a physically small antenna, generating a high-resolution radar image. The system operates in all weather and lighting conditions and suits compact platforms such as UAVs, satellites and aircraft, for surveillance, disaster monitoring and precision agriculture.
